Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle hands-on treatment, which supports the body’s ability to balance, restore and heal itself. It assists the release of tensions deep in the body, and can help to relieve a wide range of conditions including: chronic neck and back pain; migraines and headaches; digestive disorders; stress and anxiety; chronic fatigue; trauma; post-dental and post-operative recovery. Due to its gentle approach, CST is suitable for everyone from babies and children to the elderly.
CST evolved out of cranial osteopathy, which was conceived by American osteopath, Dr William Sutherland in the early 1900s. His research led him to the discovery of intrinsic rhythms in the craniosacral system and that these subtle movements can be felt throughout our body tissues and fluids as an expression of health and vitality. The craniosacral system is primarily composed of the bones, membranes and fluids enclosing and protecting the brain and spinal cord. A CST practitioner senses and locates areas where this subtle rhythm is compromised and helps facilitate the return of the body to a more balanced, integrated, relaxed and calm state.
An initial CST appointment takes approximately 75 mins, during which a full consultation/case history is taken. The treatment is performed on a couch and it is recommended that you wear loose, comfortable clothing for the session. Light contact is made on different parts of the body as required, so that areas of tension and restriction can be identified and released in a supported and gentle way.
